'Vous êtes ici (capsule spatio-temporelle) / 'You are here (a spacetime capsule)'

Nous ne faisons que passer. L'humanité toute entière n'est qu'une brève parenthèse enchantée dans un vaste espace-temps lui-même incertain, et cette capsule spatio-temporelle représente une fraction infinitésimale de ce continuum. Elle contient quelques fragments de réalité et de fiction, mais quelle différence? Vous allez passer devant sans la voir.

Si d'aventure vous croisez votre propre regard dans le miroir placé au centre de la capsule, vous serez rassuré sur votre présence, votre présent dans la cité, mais également notifié de la suite: "vous êtes ici... mais vous avez déjà disparu". 

Qui dit miroir dit vanité, et en peinture toute vanité se doit de représenter un crane humain. Ici, le miroir invite chaque visiteur à déposer son propre crane dans la capsule.

 

We are all passersby. Humanity as a whole is but a brief, magical interlude in a vast, uncertain space-time and this space-time capsule represents an infinitesimal fraction of that continuum. It contains a few fragments of reality and fiction within it, but what difference does it make? You will pass by without even noticing it. 

If, by chance, you catch your own reflection in the mirror placed at the center of the capsule, you will be reassured of your presence, your present in the city, but also notified of what follows: "You are here... but you are already gone."  

Mirrors evoke vanity, and in painting, every vanitas must depict a human skull. Here, the mirror invites each visitor to deposit their own skull in the capsule.

Berlin exhibition and artist talk (featuring de Vermis Seoulis, Sweat Dream, and Seoul Villages)

To celebrate the AsiaBerlin Summit 2024, The Drivery hosts the media art exhibition 'City as an inspiration' featuring, along withJoonhong MIN's 'MetroSpectre', KIM Yong-ho's mesmerizing adaptation of 'de Vermis Seoulis', Heesuk CHE's striking vision of 'Sweat Dream', and my ebook 'Seoul Villages' that includes both short stories.

Consistent with the works and the 'Seoul Urban Legends' context, the venue combines innovation with a very special urban landmark (the soon to turn 100 Ullsteinhaus). 

I wish I were in Berlin for the show, but I'll participate from Seoul to the artist talk on November 27.
